A Visit to the Childrens Museum of Science (CMOST)
What do moon boots worn by Apollo 11 astronauts and Silly Putty have in common? Why, silicone, of course.
My son and I learned about the connection when we dropped by the Children’s Museum of Science and Technology to check out the new Moon Boot exhibit. We arrived just as Momentive’s Dr. Samuel Conzone was demonstrating the splendors of silicones to a class of 2nd Graders from School 12 in Troy.
The students couldn’t resist poking the gooey stuff, even as they claimed that it “feels creepy.” I was drawn to the silicon classification guide. Doesn’t it look eminently pokeable?
“Dr. Sam” capped the presentation with the story behind the invention of Silly Putty, before handing out goody bags containing the toy to each of the kids. And it wasn’t long before my son’s Silly Putty sprouted a stretchable nose.
Our tour of the Moon Boot exhibit was brief.

New to Me Exhibits at CMOST
While we were at the museum, I decided to zip around to check out the renovations. I guess it’s been a while since my last visit because there were quite a few changes.
The critters have been moved to the jungle-like Operation Wild space, and there is a new energy conservation display.
There were a few other changes, including a new room with computer stations, but these were the exhibits that I noticed. Otherwise, the museum remains the same cheery and educational attraction that is best suited for young children.
