Pearl River Mart – NYC Shopping At Its Quirkiest

We don’t always shop in SoHo, one of New York City’s most hip and swanky neighborhoods, but when we do, we make sure to stop by Pearl River Mart.

Pearl River Mart is not what you’d call upscale, but for pure quirky imported goodness, it has no rival. Pearl River Mart has a wide variety of…everything. The main market on the ground floor, with a basement level, sells clothing, accessories, fabric, small kitchen goods and housewares and toys. There’s a separate section in the same building, but with its own entrance, that has higher end furniture and home decor imported from China and other parts of Asia.

When shopping with the kids, the main store is where it’s at. You can find an inflatable turkey for your holiday feast…

Perhaps you find yourself in need of shelter from storms, or sun. You are in luck at Pearl River Mart, they have a wide selection of umbrellas and parasols, from sublime handcrafted parchment and wood versions to cheap and cheerful nylon ones in a range of pastels.

If you need a bag to carry all your loot, you can’t go wrong with the selection of utterly BANANAS patterns available in store, or online. The Mighty Michelle is on my list to Santa, but Boss Lady is pretty tempting too.
