The display of cherry blossoms in Washington, D.C. peaked early this year, but Cherry Blossom Festival celebrations draw visitors from around the world through the month of April.
There’s nothing quite as beautiful as the sight of cherry blossom trees in bloom against the backdrop of the National Mall in Washington, D.C. It’s a sight that I’ve admired many times, and yet when I searched my photo archives, it seems that I’ve captured everything but the blossoms.
I remember well the year I took this photo of the Washington Monument. It was early April 2010, and the National Mall was filled with visitors taking photos of the trees mirrored in the Reflecting Pond. I don’t know if I took the annual display for granted, or gremlins got my photos. I suspect the latter as all that remained were my iPhone shots, looking away from the pink flowers.
So, instead of sharing my photos, here is a YouTube video of the Cherry Blossoms in Washington, D.C. taken during their peak in mid March by Bob Kovacs.
This is a view of Washington, DC’s famous cherry blossoms, right about at their peak. I shot and uploaded this on March 18, 2012. It has been a delightfully pleasant winter and early spring, and the blossoms are at least 10 days early. This day was gorgeous, and crowds of people were out enjoying the blossoms. Trust me when I say that this video captures only a small fraction of the beauty of the cherry blossoms.
