Turning to Cloth Diapers to Set a World Record, and Save the Earth too!

smlogoIt’s been a real, real long time since I even had to think about changing diapers. And, honestly, I tried using cloth diapers for about 2 seconds, before sticking to Huggies all the way through. I’m not proud of it, but convenience won out every time.

That’s why I have great admiration for parents who commit to using cloth diapers to help preserve the environment.

On April 23, 2011, cloth diaper enthusiasts will set an Earth Friendly World Record in the Great Cloth Diaper Change 2011.

Parents, child birth educators, lactation consultants, pediatricians and environmentally responsible businesses agree that it is not environmentally or financially justified to continue sending billions of disposable diapers to landfills every year where it will take hundreds of years for them to decompose. Heather McNamara, of the Real Diaper Association, says that “our local volunteers are finding growing numbers of parents coming to find out
about cloth diapers, whether it be for environmental, financial, or health reasons – – or even because these diapers are just plain cute!”

It is the hope of the organizers that this event will be an eye opener and an inspiration for
expecting and new parents to use cloth diapers, a more planet friendly alternative that also saves parents substantial money.

You can join in the Great Cloth Diaper Change 2011 in Northeast NY:

  • The local Great Cloth Diaper Change will be held at Calvary United Methodist Church, Latham, NY. Hosts and organizers, Sonrise Diaper Service, Diaper Envy.Com, Green Horizon Diaper Service, and Earthy Crunchy Mama are eager to be a part of setting a Guinness World Record with a minimum of 25 participants and letting the world know that cloth diapering rocks. The diaper change is scheduled for Saturday, April 23 at 12PM Eastern.
  • A Natural Parenting Expo for local families will also be held in conjunction with the Great Cloth Diaper Change. Time is from 11AM – 2PM at Calvary United Methodist Church, Latham, NY. Over 15 vendors representing locally owned and operated businesses will participate. Families will learn about natural toys, kids chiropractic care, baby wearing, infant massage, natural options for health and wellness, and much more.
  • Attendees may contribute $1 or more at the door to benefit the Real Diaper Association, the 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization working to help families across the U.S. and Canada find and use reusable cloth diapers.
