If you have kids between four and ten and you want one guaranteed-good winter weekend, this is it. Book a weeknight in January or February — the same room costs a fraction of a July Saturday and the waterpark is nearly empty.
The Great Escape Lodge is a 200-room hotel in Queensbury with a 38,000-square-foot indoor waterpark attached, forty-five minutes north of Albany. Waterpark access is included with your room, and that’s the entire proposition: you book a room, and everyone gets a day and a half of waterslides regardless of the weather.
For families in the Capital Region it’s the closest thing to a guaranteed win in February. It is also more expensive than it first appears, and the gap between the advertised rate and what you actually spend is the thing nobody explains.
What it actually costs a family of four
The room rate is not the price. Six Flags publishes the room rate and nothing else, which is why the weekend costs more than you budgeted for. Waterpark access is the one thing genuinely included — everything below it is extra, and none of it is on the booking page.

Is it worth it by age
Under 3. The zero-depth area and the small slides work, and that’s about it. You’re paying full price for a fraction of the park. Consider waiting.
4 to 6. The sweet spot begins. Most of the smaller slides have a 42-inch minimum, so a tall four-year-old opens up a lot more than a short six-year-old.
7 to 11. Peak value. Everything is available, they can go on slides without you, and they’ll stay in the water for six hours.
12 and up. It gets thin. The big slides are fun once or twice; there’s no real teen offering. This is where families start asking whether the money went to the right place.

If your kids are in the four-to-eleven window and you want one big weekend, the Lodge wins. If you’re going for two or three nights, or the kids are older, a motel with a pool plus tubing or skiing nearby often costs less and delivers more.

- Waterpark hours are shorter than you’d expect and typically run into the next day, so a one-night stay gives you two partial sessions.
- Bring your own towels if you want extras; on-site is limited.
- Life jackets are free and there are plenty.
