Hotel Review: Marriott Courtyard In Ithaca, NY

I didn’t plan to spend much time at the hotel. When I won a two-night stay at a Courtyard Marriott anywhere in the continental US, my first thought was to go to Ithaca – of course.

My daughter had Spring Break coming up, and this seemed like a good opportunity to get to know one of the schools on her college tour list – Cornell University. The plan was to visit the Corning Glass Museum on the way there, Cornell on the second day, and the Women’s Rights National Historical Park on the return.

What I didn’t count on was that Kayla would spend the first night of her visit batting a virulent stomach flu, a bug that she wasn’t able to shake throughout the next day. As a result, I had occasion to be extremely grateful for some of the luxurious amenities in a budget hotel, even if I had to cut out some of the sightseeing on our schedule.

The rooms are more than spacious, with an L-shaped desk set up which is ideal for getting work done. And the fast, free WiFi allowed me to surf the web as fast, or faster, than I can at home even.

Downstairs, in the lobby, complimentary tea, coffee, and hot cocoa kept me well caffeinated so that I could work while my daughter slept all day.

The hotel café is only open in the morning, offering a breakfast buffet as well as a menu of hearty fare. But it was reasonable (the American 2-egg, sausage & hash browns with coffee and toast was just $8.00.)

Fortunately, the pantry is open 24/7, selling microwave meals, sandwiches, yogurt parfaits, snacks, beverages, and various sundries. I could have ordered from various take-out menus, but found plenty in the pantry to satisfy my needs. Gatorade and chicken soup – just what the doctor ordered!

Other amenities include complimentary issues of both the Wall Street Journal and USA Today, a pool, and health club. The hotel is quiet, clean, and extremely conducive to getting work done – and to recuperating from the flu.

Glad you enjoyed your stay! My best friend here in Sacramento went to college in Ithaca! I’ve been to upstate New York but haven’t spent a lot of time exploring this area. Thanks for the review. Now I have an idea of at least one place to stay when I make it up that way! 🙂
