Planning a Fabulous Birthday Party in the Finger Lakes

Boys with big smiles facing birthday party cake!Living in New York means that finding things to do is not a problem. The issue is narrowing down your options and choosing just one. Birthday parties in the gorgeous Finger Lakes region are no exception.

The area has everything you could ever want or need to plan the perfect party. Each year my children have a ton of fun coming up with their birthday party location and everything that goes along with it. My son’s birthday is during the cold season, so his party is indoors every year. And my daughter’s birthday is during late spring when the weather can go either way. Some years we are able to celebrate outside, while others we choose an indoor location. But no matter where we end up for each party, we always have a blast.

When the weather cooperates, it’s always fun to get outside. Last year for my son’s party we went to Harris Hill Amusement Park in Elmira. Most of the activities were outside, but then we had a party room inside to eat cake and open presents. And speaking of amusement parks, I can’t wait until my kids are old enough to go to Six Flags Great Escape in Lake George. They both want to have their 13 year old birthday parties there with friends and are super anxious for that time to come.

A couple years ago we went to Ellms Family Farm in Ballston Spa for my daughter’s birthday. It was perfect for her fifth birthday and the Ellms family was beyond incredible. They were hospitable and made sure we had everything we needed in order for our party to run smoothly.

There have been a couple years when money was a little tight, so we chose to do birthday parties at the park. One of my favorite parks to go to is Buttermilk Falls State Park. There’s so much to do there; everyone has a great time.

play museum rochester nyA few years ago we ventured to the National Museum of Play, also known as The Strong, in Rochester for my son’s birthday. It was perfect for young kids, and we’ve been there as a family several times since then. This year he wants to take his friends to Sciencenter in Ithaca, so I’ve been looking into the birthday packages there. It’s a great price for an all-inclusive party (minus the cake, and I don’t have to clean up afterward!). Another memorable place we visited for a party was Finger Lake Gymnastics in Ithaca. All the kids loved learning how to use the bars and do tricks on the trampoline. The instructors were friendly and patient, all the parents were very appreciative.

As much as I like to pretend to enjoy baking, the truth of the matter is that I’d rather not deal with it, especially for birthday parties. And after a few cake mishaps, my children have requested I never make their birthday cakes again. This means I get to find a local bakery to do the cake every year. I like being able to give my business to someone local, rather than a large chain corporation. There are a few bakeries that I turn to for my birthday cake needs. For those pesky specialty cakes that the kids ‘must have’, I visit Gourmet Goodies in Rochester. I give them a random idea from my kids and they take off with it, creating a delicious and beautiful masterpiece far greater than we ever expected. Sweet Times in Victor is one of those small-town feeling bakeries that we visit regularly. We’ve purchased a few cakes from them over the years as well as a plethora of other baked goods.

This spring for my daughter’s birthday we are renting a cottage on Keuka Lake. We’ve decided to have our family vacation a little early and combine it with her birthday, inviting her friends and their families to join us for her party on the lake. After a bit of hiking and sightseeing we plan to rent kayaks, peddle boats, and a human water ball from Fuzzy Guppies. They are located off Seneca Lake and will deliver the rentals for a fee. My daughter is so excited to play in the human water ball (to be honest we all are); her party is going to be so much fun this year.

Yeah outdoor parties always have more fun than indoor parties.Lakes, hotels and gardens are some common places where we can celebrate it.But outdoor children party is not going to be easy one. we have to follow all rules and regulation of that particular place.
