Take Me Out to the Ball GameThis year try something new and get a break on ticket costs with the GE Kids In Free program. With every paid adult admission, you get one free ticket for kids 12 and under to dozens of great shows and events.

With the free tickets, I’m more inclined to bring the kids to something they’ve never seen before, such as ballet, and stretch their horizons a bit. If they love it, great! If they hate it, at least it didn’t break the budget. The same goes for the sporting events, but in reverse: I’m the non-fan, so the price incentive will actually get us all there.

The lineup includes classical to rock music concerts and ballet at SPAC, along with baseball, basketball, hockey and tennis sporting events around the Capital Region. While most events are happening this summer, several will be in fall and winter.

I’m particularly excited about hearing Branford Marsalis with the Philadelphia Orchestra, which I think we all will enjoy. I’m just hoping my dear husband doesn’t push for us all to see Journey – sorry, but I must draw the line somewhere.

Note: This article refers specifically to the 2011 lineup. Although not all of the activities are still available, there’s still some great fun to be had.
