vietnam-schoolI have seen many sad things in my travels. Children begging on the streets of Bogota, Colombia. Families huddled along roads leading to Delhi, India. But the saddest thing I ever saw was a bare school in the Mekong Delta of Vietnam – no computers, no art supplies, and saddest of all, no books.

Libraries open up a world of opportunity for a community; a book is a child’s passport to a better future. Sadly, too many children around the world have little or no access to books, or an education.

But there is something you can do today to help kids get books – and you can win great prizes while you’re at it!

Room to Read

Room to Read logoSince 2000, Room to Read has impacted the lives of more than five million children by providing increased access to high-quality educational opportunities through its network of libraries and schools, local language children’s books and its girls’ education program.

Room to Read is changing children’s lives in Bangladesh, Cambodia, India, Laos, Nepal, South Africa, Sri Lanka, Vietnam and Zambia and aims to reach 10 million children by 2015.

Passports with Purpose

This year Passports With Purpose has partnered with Room to Read to build two libraries in Zambia. Ambitious? Yes. Can it be done? Most definitely! Passports with Purpose truly believes “in the power of travel to change the world.”

Founded in 2008 by travel bloggers Debbie Dubrow, Pam Mandel,Beth Whitman and Michelle Duffy, Passports With Purpose was a way to build community among travel bloggers, while giving back to the places we visit.

The response from the travel community has been phenomenal, and the accomplishments of Passports with Purpose have been truly miraculous!

  • 2008 – $7,400 was raised for Heifer International.
  • 2009 – $30,000 was raised to build a school in Cambodia.
  • 2010 – $64,128 was raised to build an entire village in India.

This year, with your help, Passports with Purpose’s will raise $80,000 to build two libraries for children in Zambia.

These, and many other fabulous prizes can be yours, with a tax deductible donation to help build libraries in Zambia.

Here is how it works:

  • Donors make a tax deductible donation.  For each $10 they donate, they can be entered to win a prize of their choice.
