Capital Region students are invited to participate in the first Northeast Family Chocolate Festival Essay Contest.

Contest Guidelines:

The contest theme is “Know When to Say No” and it is open to Capital Region students in grades 6 – 8.  Students should describe a time when they faced peer pressure and how they overcame the situation.  How did they “know when to say no”?  Deadline for the contest is Monday, February 28, 2011.  The first place winner will receive a Barnes & Noble NOOKcolor© and will be featured in a 12-page Times Union supplement that will be distributed to over 90,000 subscribers on Thursday, April 7th

ACCA’s signature fundraiser, the 7th Annual Northeast Family Chocolate Festival, will be held on Saturday, April 9th from 10 am – 4 pm at the Washington Avenue Armory.  In 2010, we welcomed over 2,000 people and we expect those numbers to increase as we offer more activities and entertainment geared to Capital Region families.  Proceeds from the event will benefit the programs and services of the Addictions Care Center of Albany, Inc. (ACCA), including prevention education programming, which has been delivered by ACCA to thousands of at-risk children in the Capital Region annually for over ten years. Our literacy-based programs allow children to build self-esteem and develop healthy habits that result in the prevention of underage drinking, drug abuse and other risky behaviors, such as school delinquency and teen violence.

More information about the contest and how to participate can be found by calling (518) 465-5829 or by visiting www.theacca.net/events.
