It’s National Anthem Day!

I didn’t plan this, I swear.  Until this morning, I had no clue that today is the official National Anthem Day.

However, now that I know that it’s National Anthem Day, I have to post this photo of our Webelo Den singing the Star-Spangled Banner at the annual Blue & Gold Banquet on Sunday.  It’s not my best photographic effort, but the boys are so cute and I’m so proud of their accomplishments.

This year, they were awarded the Webelo Badge as well as several other badges.  While earning their badges, they volunteered at soup kitchens, helped out at school functions, and did their best every day.  These boys are a shining example of the promise of America’s youth.

As part of the Webelo trail, the boys earned the Citizen Badge.  To earn this badge, they had to learn about the rights and responsibilities of citizenship through a variety of activities:  they met with Rensselaer County Legislator Martin Reid, they served a meal at Joseph’s House, and they learned the history behind the Star-Spangled Banner.

In learning what it means to be a citizen, the boys developed a keen appreciation of what they can do to make our community a great place.  I look forward to seeing these Albany kids in action!
